Home care service or a helpful neighbour: where the difference lies

Good neighbours are a real asset on the Costa Blanca, and many owners rely on them for years. Still, a neighbour's help is something different from a contracted home care service — not better or worse, but intended for different situations.

What a neighbour does well

A neighbour notices things no checklist captures: the unfamiliar van, the light that never goes off, the storm damage in the afternoon. That attention is valuable and cannot be bought.

The limits show up in regularity and responsibility. Someone helping out of kindness should not have to decide whether a damp patch is a job for a specialist — and should not carry liability if something is missed.

What a contracted home care service adds

A home care service is an agreement with a fixed scope: the same points at every visit, a report with photos, one fixed contact person and a clear route when something stands out.

  • An agreed frequency instead of an occasional look
  • Photo reports as a verifiable history
  • One fixed personal contact
  • Key holding with controlled access
  • Coordination of tradespeople after your approval
  • Communication in German, English, Dutch or Spanish

Combining both usually works best

In practice the mix works best: the neighbour stays the attentive eye day to day, while the home care service handles the agreed checks, the documentation and appointments with third parties. That way nobody carries responsibility they never wanted.

There is a side effect on how the house is perceived: a property that is visibly looked after does not appear permanently unattended and can therefore also discourage unauthorised use. We expressly do not present this as a security guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a home care service if neighbours hold a key?

Not necessarily. It becomes useful once there are appointments, documentation or regular checks you would rather not ask a neighbour to handle.

Can I start small?

Yes. Many owners start with key holding or one check per month and adjust the scope later.

What happens if something is noticed during a check?

You receive photos and an assessment, you decide on the next step, and on request we coordinate the appointment with a tradesperson.

Not sure which scope suits your situation? We will tell you openly if a small solution is enough.
